Industry
The Shire of Boddington is rich in natural resources, as evidenced by the diversity of industries that operate within its boundaries. Home to mining operations and a variety of rural and agricultural pursuits, Boddington is proud of the employment opportunities that exist for its residents and those living in neighbouring shires.
Mining
Two mines are located within the Shire. The Boddington Gold Mine and Worsley Bauxite Mine. The mining industry is relatively new to Boddington with the Bauxite Mine beginning operations in the late 1970's and gold mining operations beginning in the mid 1980's.
Newmont Boddington Gold Mine

Before the announcement of the Boddington Gold Mine Expansion, the gold mine ceased operations towards the end of 2001 and was limited to exploration, rehabilitation, decommissioning of plant and general care and maintenance.
In March 2006 the Joint Venture parties of the Boddington Gold Mine, Newmont Pty Ltd and Anglo Gold Pty Ltd, announced that the Boddington Gold Mine Expansion will proceed as there is estimated to be 15-20 million ounces of gold still remaining.
Upon completion, Boddington will be Australia's largest gold producer with an estimated mine life in excess of 24 years.

Boddington Bauxite Mine
The Worsley Bauxite Mine operations are located immediately south of the town and provide bauxite ore feed via overland conveyor to the Worsley alumina refinery near Collie. Mining occurs year round in forested and agricultural land.
Key issues for management of the mining operations include:
Conservation of significant vegetation communities
Rehabilitation of mined areas to prescribed standards
Sustainable use of groundwater resources
Protection of dieback free forest within operational
Management of noise and dust
.
Bauxite mining has a healthy future in Boddington with an estimated 50 years of mineable reserves remaining.

Other Industry

The Shire is experiencing an increased demand for lifestyle and hobby farm subdivisions adding a new dimension to our culture.
Several Bed and Breakfasts along with Farm Stays now operate within easy reach of town facilities.
Other businesses involved in aquaculture developments are now beginning to emerge with Boddington being perfectly located between the metropolitan area and Mandurah to capitalise on potential marketing opportunities.
