Shire of Boddington
Welcome to Boddington, a beautiful country town nestled on the banks of the Hotham River, surrounded by rolling green hills, State Forest and abundant agriculture.
However, don’t let its country-town charm fool you – Boddington offers singles, couples and families all the essential services they need to enjoy a more relaxed way of life without sacrificing on convenience. With established school, shops and recreational facilities, (with much more set to arrive as the town booms), it’s easy to see why Boddington really is the best of both worlds.
Building / Town Planning
A building permit is required for all buildings erected within the Shire of Boddington prior to any work commencing. A building includes dwellings, patios, sheds, pools and pergolas.
Information required before a building permit can be issued includes:
• Site diagram
• Plan view
• End and side elevations
• Specifications of materials
More specific information can be obtained from the Shire.
Demolition of Buildings
A demolition license is required prior the demolition and removal of any structure.
Certain conditions apply such as the hours of the day that a building can be demolished.
If the building contains any asbestos product, very specific measures are required to ensure that the health and safety of all involved is not compromised.
Private Swimming Pools
Private swimming pools require a building permit prior to their installation.
Pool fences are inspected every four years to ensure that they comply with all safety requirements. A swimming pool is defined as a structure that contains water deeper than 300mm, is used for swimming or similar activities and can be above or below ground.
Dividing Fences
The Council has adopted a local law regarding fencing. Certain standards for dividing fences are set out and if a fence is to be built that does not meet the standard, Council permission is required. A copy of the local law is available on request.
Town Planning
The Shire of Boddington utilises the services of a consultant planner (Steve Thompson). Steve usually attends the Shire on Tuesday and Wednesday and can be contacted on planning@boddington.wa.gov.au or 9883 4999.
Appointments to see Steve regarding town planning matters should be made through the front office.
Applications to subdivide, amalgamate or amend the boundaries of land are made to the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC). The WAPC typically refer applications to the Shire and other agencies for comment before making a decision.
