Boddington residents have welcomed Royalties for Regions funding for the upgrade of the town swimming pool. The upgrade included a shade patio around the pool, an automated pool cleaning device and solar heating which will extend the swimming season for residents and the Boddington Swimming Club.
Since the upgrade, the Boddington Swimming Pool patronage has risen for all groups of swimmers. The morning sessions have been very popular since it commenced in December due to the solar heating which makes the water temperature more pleasant for the morning swimmers.
The additional shade patio and the pool furniture provided by a community grant from Newmont Boddington Gold allowed parents and visitors to sit safely out of the sun especially with the hot weather experienced during the vacation swimming lessons.
It is expected that solar heating will enable schools in both Boddington and Wandering to offer more swimming lessons to students while encouraging local seniors to use the pool.
Shire President Paul Carrotts said that elderly residents were travelling to Narrogin once a week to use the town’s heated indoor pool because Boddington’s town pool was not heated.
“Now that we have the solar heating, our seniors will be able to swim more often in our own pool and I understand that the hospital is keen to introduce physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions for patients.“
Lee Jones Hogg Principal of Boddington District High School said learning to swim is important from a safety perspective. “The more opportunities afforded to school students to attend swimming classes the better”, she added.
The automated cleaning device has relieved the pool manager from this duty, allowing him more time to supervise the additional patrons and ensure their safety.
